This isn’t going to hurt – much

On my numerous stays in Kalkan I always treat myself to at least one of the amazing Turkish haircuts.

Well … haircut only begins to describe the “experience”.

Prepare yourself for a gentleman’s pampering treatment, which, if you go for the “works” will take a good hour.

The haircut in fact begins with a hot towel wrap to the face, then your face is massaged with oil in preparation for the lather being applied in readiness for your wet-shave.

This is sometimes done twice if the barber isn’t happy with the first application.

After the shave your hair is cut to the style of your preference, then washed before a final trim is done, including a razor trim to the neck and sideburns.

Next comes… with a little trepidation on one’s first experience of this… the “flaming ear buds”. A large cotton bud is set alight, then with rapid flicks the barber singes off your ear hair! Don’t be alarmed by the smell of burning, yes, it is you, but you’re in safe hands. No need for the fire extinguisher yet!

Then comes the nose treatment. A cotton bud is put into hot wax, which is then inserted into your nostrils. Once it sets, a sharp tug and the nose hair is displayed to you with glee as the barber demonstrates how much he’s removed!

When you’ve recovered from the initial shock you’re given a relaxed neck, shoulders and face massage… then a splash of aftershave, and should you wish some hair product is applied.

All this, and (pre-Covid prices) change for a tenner!

Gents, go for it. A real treat and experience.

Enjoy!!
