FAQs

Q: How do I organise transfers or car hire from the airport?

A: Taxis at the airport are expensive. We use a local Kalkan company, Define Tours, which is reliable and offers very good rates. Contact them on www.definetours.com

Q: Are there supermarkets near the villa?

A: Kalkan has several good supermarkets together with a number of butchers, greengrocers, fishmongers, a baker and several smaller shops that sell local cheeses, wines and spirits, etc. The nearest supermarket is BIM, which is 10 minutes walk from the villa. The larger supermarkets will deliver your shopping to the villa, or there are taxis waiting outside the shops to deliver you and your shopping home. The town also has a health food shop and a large, dawn to dusk, Thursday market.

Q: We will be celebrating a birthday/anniversary during our holiday. Where do you recommend we should go?

A: There are a number of lovely restaurants in Kalkan and Kalamar suitable for a celebration. If you tell the restaurant you are celebrating when you book, most will make a cake or decorate a pudding and let off a few fireworks at the table. Please get in touch if you want a personal recommendation.

Q: Do you supply towels?

A: We supply all bathroom towels, pool towels, and traditional hamam towels for use in the sauna and steam room. However, we do ask you to bring your own beach towels as we kindly ask that our towels are not removed from the villa.

Q: We are arriving late? How do we get into the villa?

A: We have a key safe by the front door. You will be given the combination as part of your arrival details.

Q: Does the villa have a safe?

A: Yes, we have a large safe.

Q: I need to do some work while I’m on holiday. Do you have WiFi?

A: Yes, we have WiFi at the villa. Most of Kalkan also offers free WiFi. Just ask for the password in the bars, restaurants, beach clubs, etc.

Q: We will have older children with us. Is it safe for them to go into town on their own in the evening?

A: Kalkan is very safe to wander around in the evening, and there are a number of small bars that play modern music to attract a younger crowd.

Q: How do I change money in Kalkan?

A: Kalkan has several different banks and each has an ATM. A number of shops in town also exchange Turkish lira for sterling at very reasonable rates. A slightly better rate is possible if you exchange at the counter in a bank, although each bank may offer a different rate.

Q: Are there any spas in Kalkan?

A: There are a number of spas in the town offering various types of massage as well, of course, as a traditional Turkish massage and hamam. If you go for the latter make sure you have it early in the holiday as the soap massage tends to remove some of your tan! Having said that it is worth it.

Some masseurs will also come to the villa. Villa Yazlik has a large Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room so you can have the full experience without leaving the villa.

Q: If we arrive late how do we organise getting food?

A: We provide a generous welcome pack of tea and coffee as well as enough food for a good snack when you arrive, or for breakfast in the morning.

Q: Can you recommend some restaurants to eat in during our stay?

A: We have a very comprehensive housebook at the villa that includes a restaurant guide.

Q: Is it possible for someone to cook for us during our stay?

A: Yes, our manager Yusuf and and his wife Yuksel can provide a delicious BBQ meal for up to 10 guests. This includes five or so mezze starters, breads, salad, chips, BBQ meats and fish. Yuksel is a wonderful cook and we have had fantastic feedback from our guests. There’s usually enough food left for the following day too!

Q: Do I need to hire a car?

A: No, you can walk downhill into both Kalkan old town and Kalamar from the villa, as well as to Kalkan beach, Indigo beach club, and Kalkan harbour where complimentary boat services will take you to a number of different beach clubs. If you’d like to visit Kalamar beach club you can use the villa’s phone to call the club’s complimentary taxi. The bus station is also just 10 minutes walk from the villa and will take you to Patara and Kaputas beaches, the harbour towns of Fethiye and Kas, and Saklikent Gorge. Taxis from Kalkan back to the villa cost just a few pounds.
