A wedding at the villa

On a beautiful spring day in May 2022, Villa Yazlik played host to the wedding of our manager’s eldest daughter Buse, and her groom Hakan.

The radiant couple looked resplendent against Kalkan’s classic backdrop of rugged Taurus mountains and turquoise sea.

In Turkey a wedding ceremony is a fairly short and simple affair. But the celebrations afterwards tend to be lavish and typically continue for three days.

There are a number of traditions in Turkish weddings. For example, after the ceremony the bride and groom try to step on one another’s feet and whoever is fastest is said to have the upper hand in the marriage. In typical Turkish tradition, Buse was there first.

Another tradition is for both the bride and groom to wear a wide red ribbon to which guests pin money. Much better than a set of saucepans and a fondue set!

In fact, this is not the first wedding to take place at Villa Yazlik. We’ve also hosted an English wedding with 30 guests on the terrace. It was a hot July day and the bride wore the full white wedding dress. She looked dazzling, as did the terrace that had been dressed for the occasion.

Villa Yazlik hosts a photo shoot

Back in 2021, the villa was also chosen as the setting for a fashion photoshoot for the daily newspaper, the Evening News.
